Mrs. Abe (Viola) Berghuis, 79, of Hull, IA, formerly of Hinton, died unexpectedly Saturday (May 25, 1991) at Pleasant Acres Care Center in Hull.

Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic church at Ellendale, rural Merrill. Rev. Mark Harrington officiated. Burial was in the parish cemetery, under the direction of Luedtke-Feuerstein funeral home in LeMars.

Mrs. Burghuis, the former Viola Beaulieu, was born Jan. 8, 1912 in Liberty township, Plymouth county, Iowa. She married Abraham P. Berghuis Oct. 22, 1953 at St. Joseph’s Catholic church at Ellendale. The couple farmed near Hinton for many years, and moved to the Akron Care Center in 1987. Mr. Berghuis died April 6, 1991, and she had made her home in Hull since that time.

Survivors include a step-daughter, Mrs. Loren (Bernice) Howe of Goehner, Neb.; and a niece, Mrs. Albert (Margie) Pies of Summit, S.D.

She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Josephine Barr of Akron.
