Note: His death certificate lists his birthday as July 18, 1913 and his death date November 16, 1916. However, if he died on a Sunday his death date would have to be November 19, 1916 because November 16 falls on a Thursday.

BOY MEETS TERRIBLE DEATH

Three-Year-Old Son of Mr. and Mrs. Allie Mount, East of Town, Succumbs to Burns, Sunday.

A shocking accident occurred at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Allie Mount east of town, Saturday afternoon, when their son Leslie Clayton age 3 years, 4 months and 7 days, received burns from which he died the following morning.

The parents were away from home two or three hours during the afternoon, and their five children, the eldest about ten years old remained at home. Leslie and his little sister were playing in the kitchen and in some manner not definitely known the boy spilled some kerosene on his clothing. Then followed the lighting of a match and his clothes were instantly ablaze. His cries called the older children from outdoors and one of them had the presence of mind to throw a pail of water onto the child, which put out the fire. But the entire lower portion of the little fellow’s body was terribly burned as well as under his arms and on his chin. When the parent returned a doctor was hastily summoned and every thing possible was done to relieve the suffering child. But there was no possibility of saving his life, and he passed away Sunday morning at about nine o’clock.

The bereaved parents have the sympathy of all who knew them in this sad affliction.

Mrs. Mount’s mother and her sister, Miss Eliza Lovell, of Sioux City; and Mr. Mount’s two brothers from Rosalie, Nebr. came the first of the week.

Funeral services held in the Akron Baptist church Wednesday afternoon, were conducted by Rev. F. E. Volck. Interment was in Riverside cemetery.
