John H. Onken

John H. Onken, 84, Le Mars, Plymouth county native and lifelong resident, died Thursday (June 9, 1988) at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Funeral was held at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Christ Lutheran church. Grant township rural Le Mars Rev. Jack Hebard officiated and burial was in Christ Lutheran cemetery under direction of the Mauer-Johnson funeral home.

Mr. Onken was born Oct. 9, 1903, in Grant township to Onno and Augusta Martfeld Onken. He married Alma Popken Sept. 11, 1934, in Preston township, rural Akron. The couple farmed in Grant township, until retiring and moving into Le Mars in 1976.

Mrs. Onken died May 16, 1986.

He was a member of Christ Lutheran church.

Survivors are three sisters, Mrs. John (Kate) Hauschild, Henrietta Onken and Mrs. Alma Klaver, all of Le Mars, and many nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a daughter in infancy, and two brothers, Fred and Onno Onken.
