Widely Known Stockman And Farmer Dies
William McKettrick Was Resident Of Plymouth County Fifty-one Years
William McKettrick, 78, resident of Plymouth county for fifty-one years, well known farmer and stock raiser, died at the Sacred Heart hospital in this city Tuesday after a lingering illness. Mr. McKettrick had been in failing health for some time suffering from kidney and heart trouble.
Mr. McKettrick was born at Dundee, Scotland, November 18, 1860, where he grew to manhood. He came to LeMars in the boom days, attracted by widely diffused advertised advantages to be found in the colony in northwestern Iowa, founded by Close Bros. in the early eighties. Arriving here in May, 1887, Mr. McKettrick engaged in pursuit of farming, which he followed all his life. He was a hardworker, a good citizen, conscientious in all his dealings and an accommodating neighbor. His ventures in raising thoroughbred stock were hit by depression as were those of hundreds of others.
Mr. McKettrick was a member of the Odd Fellows organization and a member of the Presbyterian church. He possessed in a great measure Scotch characteristics, maintaining integrity and honesty, as cardinal principals.
Mr. McKettrick was married to Miss Catherine Brown of this county on August 3, 1891.
He leaves to mourn his death his wife, two sons and a daughter, John and Floyd McKetrick and Mrs. Leroy Rounds of LeMars. He also leaves a brother, Thos. McKettrick, of this city, and a sister living in Trenton, N. J.
Two brothers, James and John McKettrick, residents of Dalton for many years, preceded him in death.
Funeral Held Thursday
The final rites were held Thursday afternoon at the Mauer funeral chapel with Rev. F. P. Pfaltzgraff, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, officiating, and interment made in the city cemetery.
The pallbearers, members of the Odd Fellow lodge, were John Cooper, Lester Dorr, George Doty, George Lamb, Jos. Penney and M. H. Rounds.
