Mrs. Sarah Voss Taken By Death

Was Early Settler In Marion Township

Death claimed Mrs. Sarah Voss, 82, well known long time Plymouth county resident at the home of her daughter Mrs. Math Neisius, Seventh Avenue SE, Saturday, November 18. Mrs. Voss suffered a fall May 4 of this year in which she broke a leg and never fully recovered from the shock and was confined to a hospital for ten weeks. Leaving the hospital she went to the home of Mrs. Neisius in July, Previous to that she made her home with another daughter, Mrs. Clarence Grau, of this city, for fifteen years spending part of the time with her daughters, Mrs. M. Neisius and Mrs. Ed Phelan.

Mrs. Voss was born in Eldorado, Wis., November 27, 1857, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Karl Meyer and was married to Christian Voss February 26, 1877.

When a young girl she came to Plymouth county and lived in Marion township where her husband and herself farmed successfully for many years before retiring to live in Le Mars.

She was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and a sister.

She leaves one son, Arthur Voss, of Huron S. D., three daughters, Mrs. Flora Phelan, of Union township, Mrs. Emma Neisius and Mrs. Mathilda Grau of Le Mars, three grandchildren, Mrs. Edna Van Laar, of Alton, Iowa, Elmer and Lloyd Voss of Huron, S. D., and five great-grandchildren. She also leaves a brother, Robert Meyer, of Remsen.

Her husband, Christian Voss, passed away September 24, 1905.

Mrs. Voss was a member of the Lutheran church and of its kindred societies and active in the work for many years. She was greatly interested in the raising of flowers and garden work.

She was a devoted wife and mother and highly esteemed by a large number in the community.

The funeral will be held Tuesday afternoon with services in St. John’s Evangelical church at 2 o’clock, Rev. R. R. Hunger, the pastor officiating, and interment made in the city cemetery.
