Louis C. Janson

Louis C. Janson, 88, Sunrise Manor, died Wednesday, Oct. 20, 1993, at the nursing home after a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. James United Methodist Church with the Rev. Don Strickler of St. James and the Rev. Marvin Mueller of Morningside Lutheran Church, officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 4 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 9 p.m., at the Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.

Mr. Janson was born Sept. 4, 1905, in Wedel, Germany, the son of Fred and Louise (Svenosen) Janson. He came to the United States in 1906. He spent time in Manning, Iowa, and Geddes, S. D., where he received his education. He moved to the Sioux City area in 1915. On Jan. 9, 1929, he married Esther Haller in Plymouth County, Iowa. He became a naturalized citizen in 1941. He worked at the Allied Laboratory in Sioux City for a number of years. He then worked for Railway Express from 1942 until 1964. During that time, he was also a mink farmer until his health forced him to retire in 1964. He then started the E. & L. Campground and operated it until 1972. Mrs. Janson died April 9, 1990.

Mr. Janson was a member of St. James United Methodist Church. He was a mall walker and an avid card player at Morningside Presbyterian Church and the Morningside Library.

Survivors include a son, Ronald and his wife, Sharon Janson of Plano, Texas; three daughters and their husbands, Laura and Jack Dam of McCook Lake, S.D., Joyce and Gil Bennett of Sioux City and Ruth and Karl Staben of Sioux City and Ruth and Karl Staben of Sioux City; a brother, Herman Janson of Grass Valley, Calif.; two sisters, Sophia DeWall of Rockford, Ill., and Bertha Carlson of Sioux City; 19 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by five brothers; and three sisters.

Pallbearers will be Dan Bennett, Jeff Staben, Brian Dam, Craig Dam, Clifford Janson and Ben Janson.

Memorials have been established in his name with St. James United Methodist Church and the Sunlight Center at Sunrise Manor.
