Lilas Jean Hoffman, 72, of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away Saturday, July 28, 2018 at Accura Health Care Center in Sioux City.

Services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 3, 2018 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memory Gardens, Le Mars. Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume from noon until service time on Friday at the funeral home. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Lilas Jean Roehrich was born July 23, 1946 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of John and Lilas (Bogenrief) Roehrich. She was raised in Hinton and graduated from Hinton High School.

She was united in marriage to Douglas Hoffman on October 17, 1964 in Le Mars. They made their home near Le Mars. Lilas worked for Harker’s Distribution in Le Mars and later was a cook at the Merrill Civic Center. She was also a homemaker for her family and a caregiver for her son, Brent. Doug passed away June 6, 2005. Lilas continued to make her home near Le Mars.

Lilas was active in the Plymouth County chapter of ARC of the United States, focused on serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and volunteered at the Mid-Step Bluff View Home in Sergeant Bluff for many years. She helped coach little league in Merrill for several years alongside Doug for their son, Kyle. Lilas was also passionate about artwork, crafts, gardening, and taking care of various birds and animals.

Survivors include her two sons: Brent Hoffman of Sergeant Bluff, IA, and Kyle Hoffman (Rheanne Haws) of Sioux City, IA, and their son, Chase Bazer; two sisters: Mary Roehrich of Omaha, NE, and Joyce Roehrich of Garland, TX; two sisters in law: Jean Hoffman of Seattle, WA, and Karen (Thomas) Johnson of Seattle, WA; her faithful companions: “Coco” and “Ollie”; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lilas Roehrich; her husband, Douglas; two sons in infancy; her mother and father in law: Elmer and Helen Hoffman; and in laws: Jerry Hoffman, Norma Starr, and George Starr.
