Dick H. Kruse, son of Harm D. Kruse and his wife Antje, nee Schmidt, was born July 13, 1867, at Ackley, Iowa in Butler county. In his infancy, he became a child of God through the blessed sacrament of baptism. He moved with his parents in 1884 to Grant Twp. in Plymouth county.
On March 23, 1893, he was joined in holy matrimony to Miss Katherina Frerichs, in the Preston Twp. Lutheran church with the late Rev. Theodore Meyer performing the ceremony. After the wedding, they moved to a farm in Washington township, where they lived until 1940. At this time, they moved to their present home next to the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Henry T. Meyer.
On March 23, 1955, they enjoyed the observation of their 62nd anniversary. Mr. Kruse's health began to fail in February of this year, but at times he was in fairly good health. Then on Saturday, May 14 he became noticeably weaker and possibly suffered a light stroke two days later. On Tuesday, May 17, he was taken to the Community hospital in Hawarden where physicians and nurses did everything for him which was humanly possible. But the hour of his departure from this life was at hand, and on Friday he grew very weak. On Saturday morning May 21, at 6.50 a. m. be passed away peacefully.
To Mr. and Mrs. Kruse six children were born: of these two died in infancy and one daughter. Mrs. Henry Jelken Sr. passed away December 5. 1954. A kind husband and good father is mourned by his sorrowing widow, and three children: Harm D. Kruse, Mrs. Clara Meyer; and Clara Kruse all of Le Man. Also surviving are 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 2 sisters. Mrs. Anna Frerichs of Craig, and Mrs. Hilka Popken of Long Beach. California, plus a host of other relatives and friends.
Mr. Kruse was a member of the St. John's American Lutheran church of Preston township since its organization. and thus, he has an outstanding record which is difficult to equal. On various occasions, he served on the church council and was always ready and willing to do his part as a member of the church he loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and three sisters.
