Gerhard Wilkens passed away at his home at 227 1st Ave. N. W. on April 2, after a sickness of 4 days.
He was a retired farmer. Mr. Wilkens was born Oct. 31, 1875, in Germany and came to America when he was 15 years of age. He lived on the same farm 44 years. His parents were Margretta and John Wilkens. On February 27, 1902, he was married to Meta Martfeld in Johnson township. He was 75 years of age at the time of his death.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 5 at 1:30 p. m. at St. John’s American Lutheran church here with Rev. L. L. Belk officiating. Burial was in the Preston township Lutheran cemetery.
Survivors include his wife; 2 sons. John and Arthur, both of Akron; 5 daughters, Katherine (Mrs. George Siebens) of Akron, Johanna Grasz of Le Mars; Minnie Gabel of Alcester. S. D., Freda McAninch of Hawarden and Donna Jacobs of Akron; Tw o brothers, Eilert of Chatsworth and Frerich of Brunsville.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran church.
He was preceded in death by 2 daughters and 2 brothers.
