AKRON – Chris Wilken, 88, of Akron died Thursday, Nov. 10, 1988, in a hospital in Le Mars after a long illness.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron with the Rev. Timothy Mason officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-8 p.m. today with the family present from 7-8 p.m. in the funeral home.

Mr. Wilken was born May 25, 1900, in Union County, S.D., the son of Gerhart and Christine (Miller) Wilken. He attended Prospect Hill rural school and was a lifelong rural Akron resident. He worked on several farms and also followed the harvest into North Dakota. He and his sister, Menga began farming in 1934. She died in 1976. He continued to farm until September 1984 when he moved into Akron. In April 1988 he entered the Akron Care Center.

Survivors include a brother, George of Akron; two nephews, Dallas Wilken of Akron and Marvin Ellsworth of Detroit, Mich., and a niece, Illa Belle Bong of Fort Payne, Ala.
