Obituaries--Earl Chapman

Earl LeRoy Chapman, 92, longtime LeMars area farmer, died Monday (March 28, 1988) at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center after a long illness.

Funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at First United Methodist Church in LeMars, Rev. Robert Robinson with Paul Evans, assistant, officiating. Burial will be in LeMars Memorial Cemetery under direction of the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Wednesday and a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Chapman was born Sept. 6, 1895, in Sioux County to Elam and Mary Alderson Chapman. He married Verna McArthur Aug. 23, 1916 at Seney. She died in 1965. He married Annie Zimmerman Hawkins Oct. 8, 1965, at Seney. She died in 1978.

He was a longtime farmer north of Seney before moving to LeMars. He was a member of the Seney United Methodist Church.

Survivors are a daughter, Jean Gritzmaker, LeMars; a granddaughter, Mrs. Leon (Linda) Kuiken, Alton; step-children, Mrs. Robert (Blanche) Dennler of Merrill, Richard Hawkins and David Hawkins, both of LeMars; 10 stepgrandchildren; 19 stepgreat-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren; a brother, Marion Chapman of LeMars.

He was also preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister.
