OLD RESIDENT OF AKRON VICINITY IS SUMMONED

H. W. McClain Farmed Near Here Many Years; Died at Little Sioux, Iowa

Walt McClain, a widely known and respected resident of this community for more than fifty years, passed away on Monday, July 3, 1944, at 10:30 a. m., at the home of his foster daughter, Mrs. Blanche Jones, at Little Sioux, Iowa, at the age of 82 years, 4 months and 15 days. He had been in failing health for some time, due to the infirmities of age, and about two weeks before his death he went to the home of his daughter who tenderly cared for him until the final summons came.

H. W. McClain was born February 18, 1862, in Montgomery County, Ohio, where he grew to manhood. He came to Westfield, Iowa, in the fall of 1892 and worked near there for B. H. Van Leek for several years.

On December 30, 1901, he was united in marriage with Miss Kate Braun at LeMars, Iowa. He started farming south of Adaville and later farmed southeast of Akron for a number of years. His wife preceded him in death July 29, 1929. He continued farming until five years ago when he came to Akron and has since resided here.

Left to mourn his departure are one brother, J. V. McClain, of Lawton, Kansas, and two foster-daughters, Mrs. Madeline Henrich, of LeMars, and Mrs. Blanche Jones, of Little Sioux. A foster-son, Gene Beaulieu, of Morningside, Sioux City, preceded him in death in March, this year. He is also survived by several nephews and nieces.

Mr. McClain was a man of upright character and industrious habits. He had many friends, who extend sympathy to the bereaved relatives.

The body was brought here from Little Sioux, and funeral services held Wednesday morning at 10 o'clock in Patrick’s Catholic church, Rev. Charles Ernst officiating. Interment was in the Catholic cemetery beside his wife.
