Obituary for Gloria Ohlendorf

Gloria (Thoma) Ohlendorf, 69, of Cambria, California, formerly of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away at her home on November, 30, 2016 after living with multiple myeloma for 10 years. A Celebration of Life Service will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, 2017 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.

Gloria was born on Aug. 25, 1947, in Le Mars and graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in accounting. She was a practicing CPA in Des Moines and Denver before moving to San Francisco where she worked in banking for 15 years.

Gloria and Jose Alvarez, her devoted life partner, retired to Cambria in 2004.

Gloria is survived by her children, the loves of her life, Kim (Trace) Jacobs of Phoenix, Arizona and Jason Ohlendorf of Boulder, Colorado; her very special granddaughter, Becca Jacobs; her mother, Gladys Thoma of Le Mars; and Jose's son, Andres (Elisa) Alvarez and their children Madeline, Lily, and Eliot of San Leandro, California. She is also survived by her siblings Roger Thoma of Ames, Barbara Espeland of Ames, Janet Higgins of Wayne, New Jersey, Nancy Thoma of Kansas City, Missouri, Glenda Lockard of Pittsford, New York, and Kelli Lenox of Chicago, Illinois, and many nieces and nephews.

Gloria was preceded in death by her sister, Julie Thoma Wright; her father, Don Thoma; and grandparents, Alfred and Martha Molzen and Ted and Mary Thoma.
