Obituary for Dennis Neubrand

Le Mars, Iowa – Dennis J. Neubrand, 72, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2017 (one week before his 73rd Birthday) at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa following a courageous battle with cancer. His children, Chad and Shanon Neubrand were lovingly by his side as he passed. A time of sharing and celebrating Dennis’ life will be held Friday, August 18th, from 2-8 p.m., with the family present 6-8 p.m. at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home.

Dennis was born in Le Mars on August 13, 1944 to William & Madeline (Reuter) Neubrand. He graduated from Gehlen Catholic High School in 1962. He attended and played basketball at Wayne State College. After receiving his Master’s Degree, he started a career in coaching, which included being a head boys’ basketball coach in Sibley, IA and a head men’s basketball coach at Westmar College in Le Mars. He then moved into sales working for such organizations as Pella Windows and K Products.

Dennis loved the Cornhuskers, sports, and a good political debate. His heart belonged to his three grandchildren. His favorite activity was to make his rounds around Le Mars and share photos of the grandkids to anyone who would take the time. Coffee at Hy-Vee was a favorite spot and he was always treated with such kindness and respect by the employees there. He also loved to drop in to visit with Tina Van Holland and Bob Rust. Chad and Shanon would like to thank all those in Le Mars who opened their heart to their Dad, chatted with him and helped him when he needed it.

Left to cherish his memory are his son and daughter-in-law; Chad & Elizabeth Neubrand and two grandsons, Colt and Cash; his daughter, Shanon Neubrand and granddaughter, Katelin; his ex-wife, Patricia Neubrand; his brother and sister-in-law, Don & Mary Lee Neubrand; his sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Darrell Muir; his sister-in-law, Sandy Neubrand and eleven nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, and two of his brothers; Chuck and Bill Neubrand.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family for future designation.
