William "Bill" Edward Jackes

August 09, 1947 - May 25, 2017

William ‘Bill’ Jackes Jr., 69, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away Thursday, May 25, 2017 at his home after his brave journey with cancer.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, May 30. Reverend Dr. Michel Lundula will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the Wasmer American Legion Post 241 of Le Mars. Visitation with family present will be at 4:00 p.m., Monday, May 29 with a Prayer Service at 7:00 p.m. Visitation will resume after the Prayer Service Monday evening and at 10:00 am until service time on Tuesday. All services will be held at the United Methodist Church of Le Mars. Arrangements are with the Rexwinkel-Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. William ‘Bill’ Edward Jackes Jr. was born on August 9, 1947 to William and Nina (Coppa) Jackes in Cherokee, Iowa. He grew up in Holstein, Iowa, graduating from Holstein High School in 1966. He then attended Westmar College in Le Mars and graduated in 1973. Bill met Jo Lynn ‘Jodee’ Anliker on New Year’s Eve in 1969. They were married August 7, 1971 in Primghar, Iowa. Bill started Jackes Pizza in Le Mars, and later opened a second location in Cherokee. They lived in Le Mars where Bill also served in the Army National Guard. He began selling insurance in 1994 until he transitioned to Hope Haven as a Community Treatment Worker in 2004. Bill established Royal Charters and co-operated the business with his son, Jason, until 2014 when he was called home to live with Jesus.

Bill was a member of the First United Methodist Church where he taught Sunday school, helped with youth group, planned and organized mission trips and was very active throughout the Church and Council. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout and later became a Boy Scout Troop Leader and was also an active member of the Masonic Lodge. Bill drove school bus and was a member of the Plymouth County Civil Defense Team. He enjoyed all family activities including: camping, canoeing, playing cards and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was also passionate about working YATEC weekends with his family. Bill was most known for his infectious smile, comforting bear hugs, deep belly laugh, spontaneous singing and the love he showed his family and for the Lord. Bill and Jodee were foster parents for numerous children over 15 years.

Bill is survived by his wife, Jodee of Le Mars; daughters: Jennica (Ayron) Corporon and their children, Eliana Jo and Maxwell J, of Dakota Dunes, SD, and Jonalee (Jared) DeNoble of Spencer, IA; granddaughter: Madysen Louise Jackes and parents, Mindy and Jake Weinberg of Struble, IA; brothers: Timothy (Betty) Jackes of Omaha, NE and David (JoAnn) Jackes of Helena, AL; foster son, Spencer Barta of Cozad, NE; and loving in-laws, nieces, nephews and a host of long-time family and friends.

Bill is preceded in death by his son, Jason William Ryan Jackes; his parents; parents in law: Gloria Schwien, Gene Anliker, Gerben DeKok and Delbert Schwien.
