Janiece Laree Waterbury was born on August 31, 1936 in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of the late Fay and Luceen (Steinhart) Waterbury. She graduated from Akron High School in 1954.
Janiece worked hard all her life and took great satisfaction in getting a task done. She had a variety of jobs, including working at the ice cream shop at Thorson Drug in Akron, Woodbury County Extension Office in Sioux City, Otis Coilcraft in Hawarden, and finally retiring from K-Products Industries in Orange City after 22 years. Even in retirement she could not just stay at home, and found pleasure helping others as a Senior Companion until her health issues prevented her continued involvement in the program.
Janiece was a kind person who always tried to speak well of others. She enjoyed traveling to visit family members with her sister, Joan, keeping her house clean, gardening, and cooking and baking. She was never able to resist a new kitchen gadget, and her favorite recipes will live on in the recipe boxes of her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by her first husband, Donald "Pete" Peters, of Akron, Iowa; her daughter, Jennifer (Jeff) Hansgate of Green Bay, WI and their daughter, Leah; her son Chad (Shelli) Peters of Le Mars, IA, and their children : Regan and Mason; her sister Joan Coleman of Akron; her brother, Larry Waterbury of Armor, South Dakota; her brother Fay "Babe" Waterbury Jr of Wichita, Kansas; her sister Lori (Stacey) Hansen of Akron; her step sisters: Carol (John) Wiersma of Pine Mountain Club, CA, and Kay Smith of Bishop, CA; her step brother: Merlowe (Chau) Anderson of Pine Mountain Club, CA; and numerous nieces and nephews.
