October 25, 1930 - September 14, 2016

Ruth Berry, 85, of Akron, Iowa formerly of New York, was welcomed into heaven Wednesday, September 14, 2016 from Countryside Health Care Center in Sioux City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 19, 2016 at Rexwinkel-Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron. Pastor Jonathan Young of New Life Community Church in Sioux City will officiate. Burial will be at a later date in Greenlawn Memorial Park in Warners, NY. Visitation with the family present will be from 10:00 a.m. until service time on Monday at the funeral home.

Ruth Larcom Hinman was born October 25, 1930 in North Syracuse, New York, the daughter of Milan and Mary (Larcom) Hinman. She attended school in Marcellus, NY where she graduated from high school. Following high school, she attended Central City Business Institute in Syracuse, NY, where she received her executive secretary training.

After graduating, she moved to Schenectady, NY where she worked for General Electric. She was united in marriage to Roy Berry Jr. in September of 1955. Following their marriage, Ruth stayed home to raise her children. Ruth and Roy later divorced.

Ruth returned to work as a secretary for various businesses and Scotia-Glenville Schools before going back to General Electric. Following her retirement in 1994, she lived in Baldwinsville, NY. She moved to Akron, Iowa in 2013. In May of 2015, she became a resident of Countryside Health Care Center in Sioux City.

While in New York, she was a member of Schenectady Church of the Nazarene. After moving to Akron, she became a member of Wesley United Methodist Church. Through the years, she enjoyed gardening, reading, knitting, crafts, and various children’s ministries in the church.

Survivors include her 4 children: Linda Scheibe of Federal Way, WA, Roy (Sally) Berry of Virginia Beach, VA, Janet (Tom) Rasbeck of Baldwinsville, NY, and Barbara (Michael) O’Byrne of Dakota Dunes, SD; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; a brother: Norman (Matilda) Hinman of Stewart, FL; a sister: Olive Hinman of Schenectady, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother: Richard Hinman; and a sister: Alice Robinson.
