Iowa Liberal -- Le Mars, Iowa
Wednesday, March 28, 1877

Died.
Yesterday morning Mrs. Innis, wife of John L. Innis, deceased, arrived in Le Mars, and then it was learned for the first time that our ex-Sheriff was dead. Some time in January Mr. Innis left this county, intending to try the effect of Colorado's climate upon his health. He and his family went to Windsor, Fayette county, the home of Mr. Innis's father, where they have since remained. Instead of improving, Mr. Innis continued to grow worse, and on Saturday, the 17th inst., he died. His remains were buried on the following Monday. Mr. Innis was aged about thirty six years. He first located in this county in 1872, and in 1873 was elected Sheriff to fill a vacancy caused by the resignation of Van Sickel, and was afterwards re-elected for a full term. While Sheriff, he also held the position of County Superintendent. Mr. Innis was a conscientious officer, a good man, and an unimpeachable citizen. He has gone to his reward.
