Jo Ann D. Janssen, 77, of Le Mars passed away Monday, September 5, 2011 at the Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Sunday, September 11, 2011 at St. John''s Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. with Reverend Gary Landsness officiating. Interment will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be after 1:00 p.m. Sunday, September 11, 2011 at the church. Arrangements are with the Carlsen Funeral Home.

Pallbearers will be Austin Janssen, Mitchell Janssen, Brandon Shostak, Mark Buhman, Ron De Jager, and Dan Albert. Honorary casket bearers will be Teresa Shostak, Haley Janssen, Madison Janssen, Jean Ann Janssen, and Laura Janssen.

Jo Ann Dorothy Muir was born December 29, 1933 on the family farm near Merrill, Iowa to William and Marvel (Buhman) Muir. Jo Ann was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul''s Lutheran Church in rural Merrill, Iowa. She attended and graduated from Le Mars Central High School with the Class of 1952. Jo Ann was united in marriage to Alfred Janssen on June 5, 1953 at St. John''s Lutheran Church in Le Mars. Jo Ann and Alfred made their home in Le Mars for the next 5 years, until moving to Seney, Iowa. In 1962, they moved to Maurice, Iowa where they made their home for over 21 years. In 1983, the couple moved back to Le Mars. Jo Ann had always enjoyed being active with the church. She particularly enjoyed being involved with the youth of the congregation; having been involved with Sunday school and vacation bible school for several years. She had also enjoyed singing in the choir and ladies aide. In later years, Jo Ann never let her physical limitations slow her down or affect her disposition. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and later her great grandchildren. Family always brought a smile to her face.

Survivors include her 3 children and their families: a daughter, Barbara Shostak and her husband Bruce of Le Mars, and their children: Teresa (Alex) Abram of Omaha, NE and their children, Morgan, Tessa, and Isaac, and Brandon (Amy) Shostak of Omaha, NE; a son, David A. Janssen of Omaha, NE and his children: Jean Janssen of Omaha and Laura Janssen of Cedar Falls, IA; a son, Paul H. Janssen and his wife Sheila of Orange City, IA and their children: Austin (Carissa) Janssen of McCook Lake, SD, Haley Janssen of Des Moines, IA, Mitchell Janssen of Orange City, and Madison Janssen of Storm Lake, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

Jo Ann was preceded in death by her father, William Muir; her mother and step father, Marvel and Melvin Johnson, and her husband Alfred D. Janssen on August 4, 2008.
