Obituary for Jeanette Haven

1938 - 2016

Jeanette B. (Tolsma) Haven, 77, of Santa Ana, California, formerly of Le Mars, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at the Adams Family Board and Care Facility in Yorba Linda, California.

Funeral services will take place at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 7, 2016 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home. Burial with military honors will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, July 8, 2016 at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars. Condolences may be directed to the family through www.mauerjohnsonfh.com.

Jeanette Besse Haven was born on September 14, 1938 in Le Mars, Iowa, the daughter of Edgar and Maxyne (DuVall) Tolsma. She attended Le Mars Community Schools, graduating in 1958. Following high school, Jeanette enlisted in the United States Air Force. She served as an Airman 2nd Class until earning an honorable discharge in March of 1961.

Jeanette furthered her education at California State University in Los Angeles where she received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. She spent 28 years working at County, USC Medical Center in Los Angeles as a nurse manager of operating rooms. She retired in September of 2000. On March 7, 2002, Jeanette and Claude Haven were united in marriage at Sonora, California.

She is survived by her brother and his wife, Edgar Jacob and Jacqueline Tolsma of Santa Ana, California; nieces and nephews, Katherine Anderson, Russell Tolsma, John D. Tolsma, Tracey O’Donnell, Dan A. Cowen, Maribeth Cowen, John E. Tolsma, Steven Tolsma and Ryan Tolsma; cousins, Mary Ellen Haben and Elizabeth Mogler; and a close friend, Anita Dillon.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Claude; a brother, Major John Douglas Tolsma; and a sister, Sue Zanne.
