Sally DeBoer, 72, of Le Mars, Iowa passed away peacefully, Saturday, January 3, 2015 at her home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer.

A Celebration of Life Service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 10, 2015 at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. with Reverend Peter Rosenkvist and Rev. Dr. Jean Ziettlow officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are with the Carlsen Funeral Home of Le Mars. Memorials can be directed to the St. John's stained glass windows fund.

Sally Jo Averman was born September 19, 1942 to John Henry Herman and Lillian Irene (Fillipi) Averman in Pender, Thurston County, Nebraska. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Mark''s Lutheran Church in Pender, NE. Sally graduated from Pender High School in 1960; attended Wayne State College in Wayne, NE, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in education. She taught high school business and commercial classes at Albion, NE (1964-1968), Estherville, IA (1968-1969), and Le Mars, IA (1969 to 2005). Sally was united in marriage to Jerry DeBoer on June 13, 1971. Jerry passed away on November 30, 1998. She was active in church choir wherever she lived and taught, beginning in the cherub choir at St. Mark''s in Pender and ending at St. John''s in Le Mars. She also participated in the Le Mars Chapter of Sweet Adelines for many years. Her hobbies included playing Bridge (she played in three different clubs), singing, cooking, shopping, and dancing. Oh, how she loved to dance! She met her special friend, Leland Sargisson at a dance in April of 2010. They enjoyed dancing, traveling, and summers fishing in Dreyden, Ontario, Canada. In the Spring of 2014, Sally announced she would like to revisit Hawaii with Leland if they were able to do that; Sally and Leland were able to make a trip to Hawaii in October of 2014.

Survivors include a special friend, Leland Sargisson of Le Mars; a brother, Bill (Ina) Averman of Omaha, NE; a nephew, Craig (Angela) Averman of Seattle, WA; a niece, Denise (Gary) Winter of Omaha, NE; her parents-in-law, Bernie and Dorothea DeBoer of Le Mars; two sisters-in-law, Bernette (Dennis) Clark of Kansas City, MO and Donna (Steve) Jester of Le Mars; a brother-in-law, Jim (Peggy) DeBoer of Sioux Falls, SD; and several other nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lillian Averman; and her husband Jerry on November 30, 1998.
