Patricia (Patty) Olson

LE MARS, Iowa - Patricia (Patty) Olson, 65, of Le Mars died Saturday, Nov. 25, 2000, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center from complications with diabetes.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A., with the Rev. Jean Morse officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Tuesday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home, with a 7:30 p.m. prayer service.

Mrs. Olson was born Jan. 10, 1935, in Indianapolis, Ind., the daughter of Owen and Beatrice (Lytle) Lindley. She was baptized at First United Methodist Church in French Lick, Ind., on April 2, 1944. She graduated from Fairview High School in Dayton, Ohio, in 1953. Her first career was in the travel business with Trans World Airlines as a ticket agent. She married Paul W. "Ole" Olson on Dec. 14, 1957, at Salem Lutheran Church in Dayton. He died Jan. 3, 2000.

They moved to Le Mars in 1961 and purchased KLEM AM Radio. In 1967 they added KLEM FM, later named KZZL, and then KKMA. They sold their stations in July 1999 to Powell Broadcasting of Baton Rouge, La.

She worked with her husband at the stations for 32 years as bookkeeper and general office manager. She retired due to complications with her health in 1993.

She enjoyed sports, especially the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Kim and Jim Christianson of Marshall, Minn.; three grandchildren, Annie, Alex and Matthew; a stepsister and her husband, Susie and Sam Kurtz of Dayton; a sister-in-law and her husband, Sharon and Bill Dickey of Nekoosa, Wis.; seven nieces; and five nephews.

She also was preceded in death by her parents and a stepsister.

Pallbearers will be Stan Cully, Dave Grosenheider, Dave Ruden, Larry Schmitz, Denny Callahan and Ken Nelson.

Memorials may be directed to Olson Cultural Events Center or St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A.
