James R. "Bob" Clasen, 87, of Le Mars passed away Thursday, October 13, 2011 at the Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Graveside services will be 3:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 18, 2011 at Memorial Cemetery in Le Mars, Iowa with Reverend Jan Christensen of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ officiating. Expression of sympathy can be extended too the family through www.carlsenfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are with the Carlsen Funeral Home of Le Mars.

James R. "Bob" Clasen was born October 13, 1924 in Le Mars, Iowa to Herman Clasen and Pearl (Diediker) Clasen. He grew up in Le Mars and graduated from Central High School with the Class of 1942. Following high school, Bob worked at a packing plant in Sioux City for a couple of years before attending Iowa State University. He later attended the University of Iowa before returning to Le Mars to work with his father in the family jewelry store, Clasen Jewelry. In 1956, Bob accepted a position as a draftsman with Houston Light and Power in Houston, Texas. He worked as a draftsman until moving back to Le Mars in 1960 to care for his parents. His father passed away in 1963 and his mother passed away in 1974.

Following a stoke, Bob moved to the Plymouth Manor Care Center in 1987. While living at Plymouth Manor, Bob enjoyed helping the staff care for many of the residents. He enjoyed watching sports and movies. He will be remembered by his extended family and friends for his great sense of humor.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Nancy Clasen of Washington, DC.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman Clasen and Peal (Diediker) Clasen; a sister, Eleanor Page and her husband Kenneth; and a brother, Stanley M. Clasen.
