LE MARS, Iowa -- Steve D. Brodie, 66, of Le Mars passed away on Sunday, March 14, 2010, at the Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home of Le Mars, with the Rev. Jan Christensen of the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Le Mars officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Cemetery at Le Mars, with military honors provided by Wasmer Post 241 of the American Legion. Visitation will begin 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home. Visitation will resume 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Stephen Douglas Brodie was born on Aug. 15, 1943, in Le Mars, Iowa, one of five children born to William Wallace and Reva Phyllis (Sheetz) Brodie. He graduated from Le Mars Community High School. In 1961, Steve enlisted in the U.S. Army. He faithfully served as a paratrooper until earning his honorable discharge in 1964. Steve returned home where he began his career as a welder. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers. His career took him throughout the Midwest working on various projects.

On Dec. 26, 1968, Steve and Sheila Van De Berg were married in Sioux City. On April 21, 1972, Steve and Nancy Hoppe were married at Cushing, Iowa. The couple made their home in Sioux City.

Steve was a faithful member of Wasmer Post 241 of the American Legion in Le Mars. He participated in numerous military honors at local cemeteries as well as events where the Color Guard was present. He enjoyed music and singing karaoke.

Steve will be lovingly remembered by a son, Ryan Brodie and his children, Tyler, Brooke and Sidney; a son, Brad Brodie, all of Sioux City; a daughter, Shelley Koellmer and her husband, Jeff and their children, Taylor, Calab and Josiah, all of Marysville, Wash.; a sister, Mary Aarons and her husband, Joel of Chicago, Ill.; and a sister, Margaret Kroepel of Le Mars.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Jack and Tom Brodie.
