Mrs. Mary E. Harker died Thursday, April 17, 1947, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Blanche Black in Austin, Minnesota. She had been in good health until recently.Mary Elizabeth Stokes was born July 8, 1861, in Jackson county, Iowa. Her father had taken up a homestead in Plymouth county and her family moved there in May 1870. She married John V. Harker on May 15, 1889, and lived on a farm near the original homestead until 1905. Mr. Harker preceded her in death by thirteen years. Since then, she has spent considerable time with her children.
One child, John Russell, died in infancy. The remaining children are: L. A. Harker, Minneapolis, Minnesota; Mrs. Loomis O. Black, Austin, Minnesota; Mrs. John S. Bowen, Portland, Oregon; G. Wesley Harker, Denison; and Mrs. F. M. Cliff, Palo Alto, California. There are also fourteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
A brother and four sisters survive. They are: A. T. Stokes, LeMars; Mrs. George W. Harker, Emmetsburg, Iowa; Mrs. Christ Mikkelson, Bozeman, Montana; Mrs. James Watson and Mrs. Albert Werth, of LeMars.
