Popular Club Steward Dies

Chris Weidenfeller Was Old Resident

Chris Weidenfeller, 73, member of a pioneer family which settled in Liberty Township, Plymouth County, in early days died Sunday at the Sacred Heart Hospital in this city.

Mr. Weidenffeller had been in failing health for some time and about ten days ago suffered a severe attack of illness.

Christian Weidenfeller was born in Germany, August 26, 1866, and came to America with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Adam Weidenfeller, who were early settlers in Liberty Township. He attended rural school and farmed in younger days. Coming to Le Mars to live he conducted the Weidenfeller Farmers’ Hotel on Clark Street, now Second Avenue.

Mr. Weidenfeller was steward of the Le Mars Eagles Clu for twenty-six years and in his occupation as boarding house keeper and club official gained a large acquaintance and popularity.

He was married at Canton, S.D., to Miss Margareta Wagner, who preceded him in death a few years ago.

He is survived by one son, Oscar Weidenfeller, of Le Mars and a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Hoddapp, of Atlanta, Ga., four grandchildren and two great grandchildren and one brother, Anton Weidenfeller, of Merrill.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter and his brother, John Weidenfeller.

Mr. Weidenfeller was a member of the Catholic Order of foresters and a charter member of the Le Mars Aerie, Order of Eagles.

Funeral on Wednesday

The funeral will be held Wednesday morning at 9 o’clock in St. James Church, Rev. Father L. J. Cooper officiating, and interment made in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jos. Kemp, Theo Love, Chris Miller, LaneVandeSteeg. Michael Hertges, George Miller.

The funeral arrangements are in charge of Wiltgen’s.
