HEART ATTACK PROVES FATAL

Henry Meinen, Well Known Preston Township Farmer, Is Found Dead

Seized With Mortal Illness While on Street in Akron

Henry Meinen, aged 71, well known farmer of Preston township and a resident, of Plymouth county since the early eighties, died suddenly Thursday afternoon from a heart attack while in attendance at the celebration held in Akron that day.

Mr. Meinen had been in poor health of late but was up and around. In company with members of his family, he was in Akron during the day. He was found lifeless about 4 o'clock in the rear of a building where he bad apparently gone to obtain a drink of water.

Henry Meinen was one of the prominent farmers in the northwest part of the county and at one time owned several hundred acres of land in Plymouth county and also had land holdings in Texas. Mr. Meinen was a heavy investor in the Midland Packing company and other enterprises in the boom times during and shortly after the World War and with many other suffered heavy financial losses reducing materially his holdings.

Came Here When Youth

Henry Meinen was a native of Germany where he was born March 11, 1860. When he was six years old he came to America with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Meinen, who settled in Illinois. They came to Plymouth, county to 1886, and bought 40 acres in Preston township.

Henry Meinen, received his early education in Illinois and helped his father on the farm. He was married to Lena Nannen in 1889 and in the spring of 1890 engaged in farming on his own account. He prospered in his work being a hardworking and industrious farmer and purchased more land owning at one time 1400 acres of cultivated land. He engaged in reigning good cattle and hogs.

Mr and Mrs. Meinen were parents of six children. Mrs. Meinen died in 1922 and a son and a daughter also preceded him in death, He is survived by his son, Herman Meinen and three daughters; Mrs. E. Frerichs, Mrs. Henry Tapper and Mrs. Henry Hillrichs, all residing in Plymouth county.

Mr. Meinen was a member of the Lutheran church. He took an active interest in the political and civic life of the township and county in his earlier years and served as school director in his district and in other township offices.

The funeral services were heed Monday afternoon at 2:30 in the Preston township Lutheran church Rev. Theo. Meyer, the pastor, and Rev. R. A. Meske, of Akron, officiating.
