Bernard J. Carel
Bernard J. Carel, 76, Le Mars, son of pioneer Plymouth County residents, died Tuesday at the Veterans hospital at Knoxville after a long illness.
Mr. Carel was born Oct. 31, 1894, in Lincoln Township, a son of the late James and Mary Carel. He came to Le Mars with his family and worked as a carpenter here. He was never married.
Funeral services will be Friday at 9:30 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Lloyd Carel officiating. Rev. Carel, a nephew, serves St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Hawarden. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Lincoln Township, under direction of the Luedtke Funeral Home. Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Thursday. Parish rosary will be said at 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Wasmer post of the American Legion will conduct military honors at the graveside.
Mr. Carel was a veteran of World War 1, serving with the army in France, a member of St. James Cathlic Church, Wasmer post of the American Legion and Last man’s club.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, James and William and two sisters, Mrs. Mary Sizman and Mrs. Elizabeth O’Brien.
Survivors are four sisters, Mrs. William (Nona) Sullivan and Mrs. Edward (Agnes) Sitzman, Sr., both of Le Mars, Mrs. Harold (Eva) Carr f Frederickburg, Tex., and Mrs. Fern Barnard of Albuquerque, N. M.
