Mention was made in these columns last week of the death of Severn Jensen at his home in this city on Wednesday morning, July 21, 1920, after a brief illness, aged 68 years, 10 months, and 26 days.

Severn Jensen was born in Denmark, August 25, 1851, where he spent his boyhood. In 1877 he was united in marriage with Marie Petersen and together they came to America in 1880, first locating for a short time at Brownsdale, Minn., and then moving to Monona County, Iowa, where they resided four about four years. Mr. and Mrs. Jensen then came to Plymouth County, Iowa, and homesteaded on a farm about two miles northeast of Akron. They were among the first settlers in that locality and neighbors and neighbors were few and far between, that being the year 1884. The lived on the farm until about nine years ago, when they bought a home in Akron and have resided here since.

Mr. Jensen had not been in good health since a severe attack of typhoid fever about thirty years ago, and twelve years ago he lost his eyesight, which took him from active pursuits. Before his physical afflictions came, Mr. Jensen was a hard worker and successfully overcame the early-day difficulties of the farmer. He was honest, upright citizen a kind husband and father and an accommodating neighbor, respected and esteemed by all who knew him.

Besides his devoted wife, he is survived by three adopted children, Chris, Jensen and Mrs. Annie Dierksen, of this city, and Fred Jensen, of Belle Fourche, S. D. Three brothers and one sister of r. Jensen died in Denmark, and one sister and one brother are still living there.

Funeral services were held at the family home last Friday afternoon, in charge of Rev. J. E. Emanuel of the Christian church. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery.
