WESTFIELD, Iowa - Clifford C. Clayton, 70, of Westfield died Monday, Aug. 13, 2001, at his residence.
Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel in Sioux City. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the funeral home.
Mr. Clayton was born Jan. 20, 1931, in Pipestone, Minn., the son of Wilmar and Marion (Trigg) Clayton. He attended schools in Pipestone and Sergeant Bluff, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS T.E. Chandler for four years during the Korean War. His awards and decorations include the Korean War Medal, China Service and Navy Occupation Medals. He took refrigeration training following his discharge.
He married Virginia Lintner on Jan. 25, 1957, in Sioux City. In 1952, he began his employment as a refrigeration engineer with Sioux Quality Pork in Sioux City, retiring in 1992.
He attended First United Methodist Church in Le Mars, Iowa. He was a member of American Legion Post 186 in Akron, Iowa, and Landmark Lodge 103 A.F. & A.M. in Sioux City.
Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Curtis and Julie of Sioux City; three daughters and their husbands, Cindy and Roy Thoms, Candy and Steven Hill and Carol and Dave Mairose, all of Le Mars; three sisters, Betty Martin of Sergeant Bluff, Norma Seldon of Sioux City, and Mary Lou Landers of Lincoln, Neb.; seven grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Charles Clayton and Bruce Sturzl; and two brothers-in-law, Carl Martin and Don Landers.
Pallbearers will be Charles Clayton, Robert Taylor, James Martin, Terry Kratz, Fred Seldon and Justin Beller.
