OBITUARY

Emma C. Barinsky was born Lowden Cedar County, Iowa, March 5, 1864, and lived there until attaining young womanhood. There she married Martes H. Jans on her birthday, March 5, 1884. In 1886 they decided to come west and located in Johnson Township, Plymouth County, Iowa. They farmed there until 1892, when they came to Akron, and this remained the family home until October first, 1909, when the family joined Mr. Jans on his claim in Tripp County, near Witten, S. D. Mrs. Jans had had stomach trouble for several years and a complication of bowel trouble became acute about a week before her death. The day before Sunday she appeared bright and cheerful, which gave much encouragement, but that night she was seized with convulsions, and at six o’clock on the morning of June 5th, 1910 shortly after the arrival of Dr. Sweet, who was recalled from Witten, she passed from suffering to the realms of peace and rest.

Besides the husband, there left to mourn three sons and three daughters—Mrs. Ed. Heeren, of Grant Township, Plymouth County, Grover, Herbert, Lizzie, Martes, and Ora, at home, also two brothers and three sisters—Wm. Barinsky and Mrs. Fred Groenemeyer, of Johnson Township; John Barinsky and Mrs. E. Woll, of Johnson Township, Plymouth County; and Mrs. Lorenz, of Marion, Iowa. Her father, Jon Barinsky, died only a few weeks ago in Johnson Township.

Neighboring homesteaders did everything possible during Mrs. Jans’ illness, and after her death did many kind acts for the sorrowing family.

Funeral services were conducted at the home by a neighbor, Rev. Heath, a Congregational minister. One of the neighbors also accompanied Mr. Jans and his two youngest children on the thirty-five mile drive across the prairie, with the remains, to the railway station at Presho, S. D., and on the long trip it was necessary to ford the White River. They arrived in Akron with the remains on Wednesday of last week and went to the home of his mother, Mrs. Wilhelmina Jans.

Deceased possessed a kindness of disposition that endeared her to all acquaintances. The home circle was her earthly shrine, at which she was over a true and faithful worshipper.

The funeral was conducted in the Akron M. E. Church last Thursday afternoon by Rev. J. S. Bein. The local W. R. C., in which Mrs. Jans had been a loyal worker, attended in a body and took charge of the bial services at Riverside Cemetery.
