Beverly M. "Bev" Jurgenson, 77, of Sioux City went to be with Jesus on Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, at her residence with her family by her side.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at Calvary Lutheran Church, with the Rev. James Travis officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Beverly was born July 8, 1932, near Craig, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Elsie (Becker) Varenhorst. Bev grew in the Craig area and graduated from Le Mars (Iowa) High School in 1950.
She married Robert D. "Bob" Jurgenson June 26, 1953, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in rural Merrill, Iowa.
Bev worked at various Sioux City businesses during the years, with her most memorable positions being a receptionist at Toy National Bank and a hostess at Green Gables. She enjoyed her work and being around other people.
She was a longtime and very active member of Calvary Lutheran Church. She was past president of PTA and enjoyed attending her children and grandchildren's activities. She enjoyed spending time with her many friends and her best friend of 31 years, Betty Ramm and her dog, Benji.
Survivors include her three children and their spouses, Michael and Sandy Jurgenson of Escanaba, Mich., Peggy Jo and Rod Porter of Sioux City and Polly Jo and Pat Poe of Sioux City; a brother and his wife, Norman and Lois Varenhorst of Le Mars; seven grandchildren, Tobi Jo Anderson, Robert Anderson, John Jurgenson, Sara (John) Johnson, Kelly Jurgenson, Kelsie Jo Poe and P.J. Poe; eight step-grandchildren, Daniel, Joseph and Sarah Porter, Molly (Jeff) Berndt, Kayce (Damon) Boettscher, Nic (Jane) McMillin, Haley and Alex Holt; a great-grandson, Michael Douglas Johnson; and five step-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and five brothers, William, Erwin, Fritz, Harry and Elmer.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren.
