[Article from the newspaper dated January 24, 1929]Funeral services for Mrs. Louisa Utecht, 66 years old, of Leeds, who died of a lingering illness Monday night, will be held at 12:30 o’clock, today (Thursday) afternoon in the home and at 2 o’clock in the German Lutheran church east of Hinton. Rev. G.A. Matthaidess of Sioux City, assisted by Rev. R.J. Torgler will officiate.
Born in Germany, August 29, 1862, she came to the United States when she was 17 years old. She was married to Fred Utecht at Kingsley, Ia., in 1888. The couple resided there until moving to Sioux City in 1910. Mr. Utechct preceded her in death. She was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran church.
Surviving are three sons: William and Fred Utecht, both of Leeds, and George Utecht of Monterey, Minn.; three daughters, Mrs. Mildred Barnes, Mrs. Howard Fish and Mrs. Lena Lau, all of Leeds; a brother, Henry Schwesinger of Leeds; a half-brother, Paul Hoffman of Salt Lake City, and 42 grandchildren. Another son, Henry Utecht, died in December 1928. Grief over his death is believed to have contributed to Mrs. Utecht’s illness.
Burial will be in the Lincoln Township Trinity Lutheran church cemetery.
