Mrs. Anna Reesen Called By death

Pioneer Settler Leaves an Aged husband, Family
Funeral Saturday

Mrs. Jacob Reesen, a resident of this county since 1885, and a mother of a large family, passed away at her home in LeMars, Wednesday morning at the age of 86 years, nine months and 25 days. Dropsy was the cause of her death.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the home, 308 Fourth avenue S. W., and at 2 o'clock at St. John's Evangelical church, Rev. Paul V. Dyck officiating. Burial will be made in the city cemetery.

Mrs. Reesen, nee Trumpf, was born on January 14, 1861, at Mahne, Dithmarschen, Germany. In early infancy she received christian baptism and attended the parochial school of her home town. On June 8, 1879, she was united in marriage with Jacob Reesen of Mahne and for live years the young couple lived at Mahne, where Mr. Reesen worked at the carpenter trade.

In 1885 the family came to America, directly to Iowa where they made their home in Remsen. They lived in Remsen for 10 years. In 1895 they moved on a farm, six miles south of LeMars, where they spent 24 years of life. To this union 14 children were born, three of whom died in infancy, while the other eleven, four sons and seven daughters, survive with their beloved father.

Deceased had been in good health until about 15 years ago, when she had to submit to a surgical operation. Five years later another operation became necessary and a third one a year later. Though she recovered sufficiently to assume her household duties, she stayed infirm in health.

In 1919 Mr. and Mrs. Reesen retired from their farm work and moved to this city, where they have been living ever since. About eight years ago the symptoms of a malady appeared which gradually poisoned her blood system. From that time on she has been an invalid.

She leaves to mourn her departure, besides her aged husband, four sons August Reesen of Genesco, Illinois; Bernhard Reesen, Marcus, Iowa ; Henry Reesen, LeMars; John Reesen, LeMars; seven daughters; Mrs. Fred Husmann, Merrill, Mrs. R. Peters, Akron; Mrs. A. Wilcinsky, Magrath, Alberta, Canada ; Mrs. Ed Fischer, Merrill; Mrs. F. Klingbell, Remsen; Mrs. Henry Siebens, Akron; Mrs. William Mooney, LeMars. One sister, Mrs. Lena Ebrecht,. this city, 46 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Mrs. Reesen was a good member of St. John's Evangelical church and enjoyed the acquaintances of many friends. She was a good wife and mother, and was well liked by everyone
