A man named D. Richner, at work on Mat Sorenson’s farm near Oyens, died Thursday afternoon from the effects of the heat. He was the father-in-law of Umstutz, the stone mason of this city, and had been in this country about six weeks, coming here from Switzerland. His age was fifty-two. His remains were brought to town today and buried in the city cemetery. This makes three deaths in this immediate vicinity this week from the hot weather. The first was Michael Kentzie on the Detloff farm in Elgin township, then August L?mpe on the Tomlinson farm south-east of town, and third, the victim named above. We have heard of several horses dying from the heat, and will be surprised if the number is not large. - Le Mars Semi-Weekly Sentinel, Tuesday, August 4, 1885, page 1, column 4
