Funeral services for Ernest Lee Allen, 72, who died Thursday at his home here after a three-year sickness, were held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Lewison funeral chapel. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.
Mr. Allen was born May 16, 1881, at Ossian, Ia. He resided in the Akron community for the last 36 years. He married Emma Kidd Reiley on February 9, 1921. A son, Byron, was killed in World War 2 while serving in the air corps.
Survivors are the widow; two sons, Vern and Ronald, both of Waterloo; three daughters, Mrs. Lucille Waterbury of Des Moines, Mrs. Margaret Bray of Postville, Ia., and Mrs. Eleanor Drilling of Waterloo; two brothers and three sisters.

Last Rites Are Held Sunday Afternoon For Akron ManErnest L. Allen, a resident of Akron for the past thirty-six years, passed away at his home here last Thursday evening, January 7, 1954. He had been ill the past three years, much of the time confined to bed. The summons came quite suddenly and with little warning. He attained the age of 72 years, 7 months and 22 days.
Ernest Lee Allen was born May 16, 1881, at Ossian, Iowa, the son of Ed. and Melissa Allen. On February 9, 1921, he was united in marriage with Mrs. Emma Kidd Reilly and to this union a son, Byron, was born. Serving in the armed forces as an aerial cinema photographer, Byron gave his life for his country in 1944.
Surviving Mr. Allen is his wife, Emma, from whom he received wonderful care and devotion during his long illness; two sons and three daughters by a previous marriage, Vern and Ronald Allen of Waterloo, Iowa; Lucille Waterbury, Des Moines, Iowa; Mrs. Margaret Bray, Postville, Iowa; Mrs. Eleanore Drilling, Waterloo, Iowa; two brothers, George of Frankville, Iowa, and Charles of Castalia, Iowa; three sisters, Mrs. Jen Wheeling, Galesville, Illinois; Mrs. Cora Harvey, Castalia, Iowa, and Mrs. Grace Crabtree, of Jessup, Iowa; and other relatives.
For many years and while his health permitted, Mr. Allen worked at carpentering. Of a retiring but genial nature, he gained many friends in this community.
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon in the chapel of the Lewison Funeral Home, Rev. Dan J. Peterson, pastor of the First Baptist church, officiating. H. J. Behmer sang and Mrs. H. Shoulberg was accompanist. Pallbearers were: Gordon Kilstrom, Frank Simeon, Avery Small, Walter Searls, Albert Von Hagel, and Emery Tucker. Interment was in Riverside Cemetery.
Relatives from a distance in attendance at the last rites were: Mr. and Mrs. Vern Allen and daughter, Carol Lee; Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Allen, Mrs. Forrest Drilling, of Waterloo, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bray, of Postville, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. George Crabtree, of Jessup, Iowa; Mrs. Mary Taylor, Mr. and Mrs. Duane Taylor, of Merrill, Iowa; Mrs. Mary Kipp, Terry Reilly and Dorthea Frericks, of Remsen, Iowa.
