LE MARS, Iowa | Merlin Bock, 85, of Le Mars, formerly of Sheldon, Iowa, passed away Sunday, Dec. 13, 2015, at the Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at All Saints Parish-St. James Catholic Church in Le Mars. Interment will be in Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, with military rites provided by the American Legion Casper Post 477 of Hinton, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be after 4 p.m. Thursday, with a rosary at 5 p.m. and a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m., at Carlsen-Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume 9:30 a.m. until service time Friday at the church.

Merlin Lloyd Bock was born on July 17, 1930, in Sioux City, to Clarence and Irene (Marx) Bock. He graduated from Hinton High School. He served his country during the Korean conflict with the U.S. Marine Corps.

Merlin was united in marriage to Donna Belle June on Feb. 2, 1952, at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City. After Merlin was discharged from the service, the couple farmed near Hinton. Merlin and Donna moved to Englewood, Calif., where he studied aviation mechanics. They returned back to Iowa where Merlin was the manager of the Westmar College Airport. After five years of managing the airport in Le Mars, Merlin accepted the position as manager of the Sheldon Airport and worked there until his retirement on Dec. 31, 1992.

When Merlin and Donna retired they moved to their lake home near Tracy, Minn. He and Donna enjoyed countless hours watching all the birds and animals that enjoyed the treats set out for them. Never one to sit still, Merlin enjoyed his retirement restoring antique airplanes and countless hours on his riding mower. Along with enjoying their lake home, the couple enjoyed being snowbirds, having spent several winters in Florida and later Arizona.

Survivors include four children, Diane (Kent) Easterday of Altoona, Iowa, Larry (Marsha) Bock of Lafayette, La., Lori (Dan) McCabe of Sheldon, and Ranee (Loren) Mosterd of Ireton, Iowa; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; several in-laws, Dorothy Bock of Le Mars, LaDonna Bock of Wisconsin, Catherine June of Le Mars, Everett Bollmeyer of Hinton, Doris Muyskens of Mason City, Iowa, Beverly (Ray) Behrens of Benson, Minn., and LaVon (Jack) Holton of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna on March 8, 2015; his son, Douglas Paul Bock in 1982; a sister, Betty Bollmeyer; and two brothers, Ronald and Kenneth Bock.
