Robert L. Andersen, 80, of Sioux City, Iowa passed away on Monday, October 12, 2015 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. . Funeral services will take place at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 15, 2015 at the Mauer – Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Rev. Bert Burwell will officiate. Burial will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens in Le Mars. Military honors will be conducted by Wasmer Post #241 of the American Legion. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.

Robert LeRoy Andersen was born on August 17, 1935 in Le Mars, Iowa to Ole D. and Charlotte (Kloster) Andersen. He graduated from Le Mars High School in 1954. Robert enlisted in the United States Army on September 20, 1955. He served on a surface to air missile (SAM) launching crew prior to earning his honorable discharge on September 3, 1957. Robert returned to Le Mars and attended Westmar College.

On September 24, 1959, Robert and Darlene Joyce Pritchett were united in marriage at Remsen, Iowa. Robert accepted a position with the Social Security Administration and the family lived throughout the United States. In 1975, Robert and his family moved to Sioux City where Robert served as the District Manager of Northwest Iowa for Social Security. He retired in 2004.

In his spare-time, Robert enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and yard work. He was also an avid Minnesota Vikings football fan. During his retirement years, he spent afternoons with his friends at various local establishments keeping in touch and sharing stories.

Robert will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Darlene of Sioux City, IA; children, Cheryl Lorenzo and her husband Christopher of Tacoma, WA, Bryan Andersen and his wife Takako of Salem, OR and Mark Andersen and his wife Theresa of Del Rapids, SD; a brother, Richard Andersen and his wife Ginger of Farmington, MN; sisters, Florence Grosenheider and Estella Herman both of Le Mars, IA; a sister-in-law, JoAnn Rowenhorst of Merrill, IA; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Russell (Mary) Andersen, Ronald (Geraldine) Andersen, Jerry Andersen; sisters, Helen (Maurice) Harms, Hazel (Virgil) Johnson and Marlene Criswell.
