KINGSLEY, Iowa -- Jerald James Barthole, 78, of Kingsley passed away Friday, Jan. 1, 2010, at the Kingsley Nursing & Rehab Center in Kingsley.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kingsley. Burial will be in St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery. A rosary will be held 3:30 p.m. today. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Rohde Funeral Home in Kingsley.

Jerald was born Dec. 7, 1931 in Kingsley, Iowa, the son of Nick and Velma (Trout) Barthole. He attended country grade school in the Kingsley and Correctionville area through the eighth grade, graduating from Correctionville High School in 1950. He was united in marriage to Janice Jane Janssen on Nov. 27, 1954, at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Kingsley. He farmed in the Kingsley and Pierson area all of his life. He and Janice moved into Kingsley in 1998.

Jerry's hobbies included racing go-carts in the 1950s and 1960s, participating in a men's bowling league, 500 card club, and he was a member of the Brookside Golf Course in Kingsley. Jerry was also an avid sports fan, attending all the sporting events to watch his children and grandchildren participate.

He is survived by his loving wife, Janice of 55 years; three daughters, Jerri Jean (Chuck) Hardie of Kingsley, Janet (Tim) Schenzel of Corpus Christie, Texas, and Julie (Arlen) Seablom of Pierson, Iowa; two sons, Joe (Lisa) of Sioux City, and Jeffrey (Jennifer) of Le Mars, Iowa; 16 grandchildren, Kyle (Michelle), Kevin and Becki Hardie, Tara, David and Lana Campbell, Tim (Niki) and Randi Morgan, Christine (Seth) Knight, Kelly Seablom, Brady (Sarah), Cody (Erica), Dustin, Dylan, Jayden and Dawson Barthole; eight great-grandchildren, Peyton, Brooklyn, Lauryn and Kaitlyn Hardie and Faith, Carter, Jayce Morgan and Amaya Tempro; three sisters, Patsy (Jim) Woods, Peggy (Art) Poeckes of Le Mars, and Shirley Heidesch of Remsen, Iowa; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and a host of friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Kimberly Hardie; and a brother-in-law, William Heidesch.

Pallbearers will be the grandsons.
