Wayne S. Burris

Wayne S. Burris, 71, 910 Edgewater Ave., died Tuesday, Nov. 9, 1993, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.

Services were held at sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. James Bruch officiaing. Burial was in Calvary cemetery under direction of Berkemier Funeral Home.

Mr. Burris was born Jan. 31, 1922, in Westfield, Iowa, and moved to Akron, Iowa, as a child. He graduated from Akron High School in 1940. He was employed by the Milwaukee Railroad until 1942, when he entered the U. S. Army. He served from 1942 until 1945. Following the military service, he came to Sioux City and was employed by the Milwaukee Railroad as a locomotive engineer, retiring in 1980. He married Lucille Pomerico July 16, 1951, in Sioux City.

Mr. burris was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, United Transportation Union Local 0418, Monahan Post 64, American Legion, and Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 2492.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Craig and Linda Burris aof Sioux City; two brothers, Jim and his wife, Susie Burris of Bullhead City, Ariz., and Claude and his wife, Marilyn Burris of Phoenix, Ariz.; four sisters Joy Neal of Temecula, Calif., Addie and her husband, darrell Luken of Craig, Iowa; Kathryn Dailey of Gardena, Calif.; and Sandy Borchers of Sunrise Beach, Mo.; and a granddaughter, Nicole Engle of Sioux City.
