Phyllis Allen, 89, of rural Akron, Iowa passed away unexpectedly Thursday, April 9, 2015, at her home.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 13, 2015, at the Adaville United Methodist Church, rural Merrill, Iowa with Reverend Merrill Muller officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be after 5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 12, 2015 at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars followed by a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service Sunday evening at the funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will continue Monday morning at the church from 9:30 a.m. until service time. Memorials can be directed to Gideon's International.

Pallbearers will be Todd Allen, Curt Allen, Joel Brown, Dan Roghair, Justin Allen, and Austin Moorhouse. Honorary casket bearers will be all of her grandchildren.

Phyllis Ione Tindall was born April 23, 1925 on the family farm in Johnson Township, rural Akron, Iowa to Adam Sr. and Lizzie (Grebner) Tindall. She attended country school near her home and later graduated from Akron High School in 1942. Following high school, Phyllis attended Western Union College in Le Mars and received her teaching certificate. She taught school at Grand Meadow School and later at Kingsley Public School.

Phyllis was united in marriage to Claire Allen on May 31, 1948 at the Adaville Evangelical United Brethren Church. She and Claire farmed in Johnson Township and also raised hogs and chickens. She enjoyed gardening and reading, but most of all she enjoyed her family. The coffee pot was always on and she was ready to share a cup with all who came for a visit.

Phyllis was a lifelong member of the Adaville church. She served the church wherever needed and had served as a local and District Officer of the United Methodist Women (UMW). Phyllis volunteered at the EUB Summer Camp near Cedar Falls as a counselor for many years. She was also a dedicated member of the Gideon’s Auxiliary.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Claire of Akron; her children: Dave Allen and his wife Karen of Akron, Diana Brown and her husband Mark of Le Mars, Donna Larson and her husband Ken of Princeton, MN, Kent Allen and his wife Sheri of Akron, and Mary Kay Moorhouse and her husband Gary of Randolph, MN; 22 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. She is also survived by her in-laws: Reva Tomlinson of Spencer, IA, Lowell and Elaine Allen of Cherokee, IA, and Verl and Kay Allen of Le Mars; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Adam Sr. and Lizzie (Grebner) Tindall; a great grandson, Briggs Allen; 2 sisters, Hattie in infancy and Grace (Bill) Feuerhelm; 2 brothers: Allen Tindall and Adam Jr. “Buster” (Helen) Tindall; and a brother-in-law, Max (Mary Alice) Allen.
