Swan Anderson, a resident of Merrill for the past twenty-five years died at his home here on Sunday morning, February 16 at the age of 51 years, 7 months, and 16 days.
Mr. Anderson has been engaged in various business enterprises during that time, at the time of his death being manager of the Sinclair Oil Station. He was a veteran of the Spanish-American War having enlisted in Co. G. First South Dakota volunteers May 16, 1898, and recieved his honorable discharge on October 5, 1899. He had been a member of the Louis E. Brick encampent, Spanish American Veterans of Le Mars for many years, and was also a member of K. P. and Odd Fellows Lodge.
Mr. Anderson was born in Blekinge, Sweden June 25, 1878 and confirmed from the Backaryd Lutheran Church in Blekinge Lan, Sweden. In the spring of 1894 he left sweden for the United States and located at Rock Rapids. On November 11, 1904, he was married to Miss Anna Stein of Alvord.
The immediate survivors include his wife and four children, Roland, in the Philippine Islands and Violet, Helen, and Kenneth, at home. Three sisters, Mrs. John R. Carlson, Mrs. Arvid Wahlberg, of St. Cloud, Minn., and a sister, Hannah, of Sweden, also survive.
Attending the funeral from out of town were: Mrs. John B. Carlson, Mrs. Arvid Wahlberg, Miss Thelma Wahlherr, of St. Cloud, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Kroeger and children of Lake Benton, Minn., and Mr. and Mrs. L. E. Kriege and children, of Remsen, Iowa.
Services were held at the Methodist Church at 1:30, Wednesday, with Rev. M. L. Metcalf officiating. Burial was in the Merrill cemetery. Louis E. Brick camp of Le Mars was in charge of services at the grave with the Merrill American Legion Post furnishing a firing squad.
