Edith M. Baker, 89, Akron, died suddenly Tuesday, Oct. 18, 1988 in Hawarden.
Services were held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 in the Immanuel Lutheran church in Akron. The Rev. William J. Flemr officiated. Hymns sung by the congregation were "All Glory Laud and Honor", and "For All The Saints". Jon Harris, soloist, sang "The Prayer of St. Francis".
Burial was in Riverside cemetery under direction of Schroeder funeral home in Akron.
Pallbearers were Wayne Brown, Lyle Derscheid, Galen Kelsey, Richard Coyle, Dean Hebeler, and Louis Williams.
Mrs. Baker, the former Edith Ceilley, was born Nov. 10, 1898 to Rufus and Marion (Taylor) Ceilly in Westfield. She graduated from Westfield high school and attended the University of South Dakota for two years. She married Jack Baldwin in 1922 in Westfield. He died in 1928. She married Rollo Baker in 1933 in Sioux Falls, S.D. Mr. Baker died in 1965.
Mrs. Baker taught school in Walnut Grove, Minn., Westfield and rural school in Union county, South Dakota for many years. She had lived in the Akron area since 1933.
Mrs. Baker was a member of Immanuel Lutheran church in Akron, Senior Citizens, PEO, Book and Thimble club, Sioux Valley Extension club and ELCW.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Don (Dorothy) Kratochvil of Brookings, S.D.; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Robert (Barbara) Burnight of Mound, Minn.; two stepsons, Jack Baker of Hawarden and Slade Baker of Mankato, Minn.; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, Jack Baldwin and Rollo Baker; a daughter, Judy Baldwin; a brother, Walter Ceilley and a sister, Julia Johnson.
