March 09, 2012LE MARS, Iowa -- Mary Ann Fara, 79, of Le Mars passed away Wednesday, March 7, 2012, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Plymouth Presbyterian Church, rural Le Mars. The Rev. Jan Christensen will officiate. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation with the family will be after 6 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Saturday at the church.
Mary Ann Fara was born June 24, 1932, on a farm in Preston Township in Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of George W. and Bessie J. (Barker) Fara. She attended country school at Preston 4 and later high school in Akron, Iowa. She graduated from Akron High School in 1950. She attended the University of South Dakota, where she attained her teaching certificate. She taught country school for a few years before staying home to help her family on the farm. After the passing of her father, she and her mother moved to Le Mars in 1969. Mary began her more-than-40-year career with the Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars as the activities director. After retiring, she continued to work part-time at the home.
Mary was a longtime member of Plymouth Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed her involvement with the Good Samaritan Center Bell Choir and visiting with her many friends at the home. She enjoyed flowers and being outdoors. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her three brothers, Orland Fara (Ona) of Manning, Iowa, twin brothers, Jack Fara of rural Akron, Iowa, and Jim Fara (Joanna) of Cincinnati, Ohio; five nephews, Steven Fara (Leigh), Nathan Fara, Nicholas Fara (Courtney), Eric Fara, and Mark Fara; six nieces, Christin Slorah (Adam), Elizabeth Fara-Carter (Rick), Sharon Blanchard (Burke), Megan Fara, Elizabeth Fara, and Rebecca Fara; her niece-in-law, Kimberly Fara; and several grandnieces and grandnephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a nephew, Dean William Fara; and a sister-in-law, Jan Fara.
Memorials can be made in Mary Ann's name to the Good Samaritan Center Activities Department.
