Mrs. Melvin (Ida) Smith
Mrs. Melvin V. (Ida) Smith, 86, of Akron, died Thursday (Dec. 3, 1981) in the Akron hospital of a brief illness.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 5, at Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron. The Rev. Peter Peterson officiated. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery under the direction of the Schroeder Funeral Home of Akron.
Pallbearers were Ford Hansen, Lloyd Fickbohm, David Nelson, Donald Kapfer, Walter Dirks, and John Bouwman.
Mrs. Smith, the former Ida Louise Asman, was born March 10, 1895, near Worthington, Minn. She taught school in Nobles County for several years, and also at Saskatchewan, Canada for one year.
Ida Asman and Melvin V. (Dick) Smith were married June 6, 1920, at Worthington. He died on June 22, 1955. The made their home in Akron, where she served as clerk and assistant postmistress until they purchased the Norka Theatre, which the operated for a number of years.
Mrs. Smith was a member of the auxliary of the Hoschler American Legion post 186.
Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Harold L. (Mildred) Baker, of Akron; a sister, Anna Johnson, of Worthington, Minn.; thre grandchildren, Pamela Walker of Sioux Falls, S. D., Scott Baker of Chicago, Ill., and Jeffrey Baker of Sarasota, Florida.
