Nicole Vrana, 32, of Meckling, South Dakota, formerly of Westfield, Iowa passed away unexpectedly, Monday, February 2, 2015 at Custer Regional Hospital in Custer, South Dakota while on vacation.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday, February 7, 2015 at the Westfield Congregational Church in Westfield, Iowa. Pastor Barry Miedema will officiate. Burial will follow in the Westfield Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 6, 2015 at the Carlsen Funeral Home – Schroeder Chapel in Akron.

Nicole Sue Vrana was born September 7, 1982 in Akron, Iowa, the daughter of Douglas and Renee (Cummins) Vrana. She attended school in Akron and graduated from Akron-Westfield High School in 2000. She attended Mitchell Technical Institute in Mitchell, South Dakota, graduating with a degree in culinary arts.

Nicole lived in Sioux Falls, South Dakota where she was the restaurant manager at the Holiday Inn. Later, she moved back to Westfield. She worked for Cody’s Homestead in Elk Point.

In 2008, she married Nathan Thielvoldt. They made their home in Meckling, South Dakota. They later divorced.

Most recently, Nicole was working at the Coffee Cup Fuel Stop near Vermillion.

Through the years, Nicole enjoyed shooting trap, listening to country music, attending rodeos, camping, and fishing. She also enjoyed cooking and riding on the motorcycle. But most of all, she loved the times spent with her family and friends. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends.

Survivors include her parents, Doug and Renee Vrana of Sioux Falls, SD; her sister: Darla (Jason) Schulz of Hartford, SD and their son, Brady; her fiancé: Chad Mowry of Alexandria, SD; her uncles: Mike Vrana of Sioux City, IA, Ray (Ivy) Cummins, Joe (Mary) Cummins, and Marvin Cummins, all of Casper, WY; and a special great aunt: Velma Knudsen of Akron, IA.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents: Harold and Marlys Vrana; her maternal grandparents: Pierre and Helen Cummins; and her paternal great grandmother: Laura Ross.
