MRS. MYRTLE SMITH CALLED BY DEATH MONDAY EVENING

Rites Here Today For Long-Time Resident Of This Vicinity

Mrs. Myrtle Smith, a resident of this community for many years, passed away after a brief illness on Monday evening, April 8, at the home of her son, Ralph Smith, at Spink, S. D.

Myrtle Googin, daughter of Charles and Lucille Googin, was born in Sangerville, Maine, on April 26, 1874, and had attained the age of eighty-two years, eleven months, and twelve days. At an early age she moved to Sioux City, Iowa, with her parents and grew to young womanhood there. In 1896 she married Henry B. Smith, of Akron, Iowa, and she lived the remainder of her life in this vicinity.

She was preceded in death by one son, Claude, in 1915, and by her husband in 1949.

Survivors are one son, Ralph Smith, of Spink, S.D., one granddaughter, Mrs. Ray Schulz, a great-grandson, also of Sp;ink, one sister, Mrs. Winifred Pechikos, of Toledo, Ohio, and one nephew, T. M. Googin, of San Rafuel, Calif.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Akron for many years, and taught a children's Sunday School class.

Funeral services will be held in Akron this (Thursday) afternoon, with a brief service at the Rossow Funeral Home at 1:30 o'clock followed by services at the First Baptist Church at 2:00 o'clock, with Rev.. Robert Schesvold officiating.

Serving as pallbearers will be: Gust Abraham, J. Martin Larson, Carl Nystrom, Herbert Swanson, Earl Ross and August Huebner. Interment to be in Riverside Cemetery.
