Blanche D. Mohning, 88, of Le Mars, died Feb. 3, 2015, at Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars, in Le Mars.

Blanche Dorothy Petersen was born Jan. 27, 1927, on the family farm in Fredonia Township, rural Plymouth County, the daughter of Axel and Herlig (Kloster) Petersen.

She was baptized at the Danish Lutheran Church, in rural Oyens, and confirmed when the church was relocated into Oyens and named Gethsemane Lutheran Church.

Blanche attended country school in Fredonia Township and later graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1944.

She was united in marriage to Stanley Mohning on Aug. 23, 1944, at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, in Oyens.

They farmed for many years near Oyens. Following their retirement, they continued to live on the farm. In 2008, they moved to Prime Living, in Le Mars.

In September 2011 Blanche became a resident at the Good Samaritan Society-Le Mars.

Blanche was a longtime member of St. John's Lutheran Church, in Le Mars. Church was very important to Blanche and she was a very active member, being involved in quilting, teaching Sunday school and women's groups.

She also volunteered at Good Samaritan for many years.

Blanche was a helper with a servant's heart, who brought joy to everyone around her.

She loved music. She was a member of the high school girls chorus.

She played the organ for many years in the church in Oyens.

She was an avid sports fan and loved her Hawkeyes.

She and Stan loved ballroom dancing. We think they may be dancing in heaven on streets of gold.

Most of all, she loved her family and doted on her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.

Survivors include her children, Barbara Johnson and her husband Mike, of Spencer, Gail Ancelin and her husband Gerard, of Le Mars, and Dean Mohning and his wife Linda, of Remsen; five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren. A brother Woodrow Petersen and his wife Elsa, of Park Forest, Ill., and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Stanley on Sept. 26, 2012; a sister, Irene Schmidt and brother-in-law Willard Schmidt.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Friday at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A., in Le Mars, with the Rev. Dr. Jean Ziettlow officiating.

Burial will be at Resthaven Memory Gardens Cemetery, rural Le Mars. Visitation with family present will be after 4 p.m. Thursday, with a prayer service at 6 p.m. at Carlsen Funeral Home, in Le Mars.

Visitation will continue Friday afternoon at the church from 1 p.m. till service time.
