Minnie Sophia Pollock
Minnie Sophia Pollock, 86, longtime Akron resident, died Tuesday (Sept. 24, 1991) at the Akron Care Center after a long illness.
Services were Friday at Trinity Lutheran church in Akron. Rev. Allen L. Bidne, officiated with Rev. Wally Beckman, serving as eulogist. "Softly and Tenderly" was sung by Gary Tucker. "How Great Thou Art" was sung by the congregation. Organist was Marietta Nielsen. Burial was in Riverside cemetery in Akron, under direction of Schroeder funeral home.
Pallbearers were Roger Nielsen, Elmo Fletcher, Glen Milbrodt, August Huebner, Wayne Von Hagel, and Vernon Jurgensen.
Mrs. Pollock was born June 20, 1905, in Sioux City, Iowa to John and Mary Gerdes Beckman. She married Iver Pollock Feb. 6, 1929, in Sioux City. They moved to the Akron area in the early 1930s, and lived on a farm south and east of Akron. Mr. Pollock died in 1987.
Minnie owned and operated the Tip Top Cafe and later the Pantry Lunch for 25 years. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran church in Akron, and Hoschler Post 186, American Legion Auxiliary.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Lou and James Mattke of Nevada, Iowa; three granddaughters, Ruth, Rebecca and Jean; a great-grandson, Heaton Hanson; two special nephews, Willy Beckman of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Rev. Wally Beckman of Mena, Ark.; a sister, Dean Calhoon of Rapid City, S. D. and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, four brothers, and four sisters.
