Note: The correct year of birth is 1854 as listed in the first article. Her husband's obituary lists her maiden name as Cooke. Her gravestone may be listed as mother without her name Martha.

MRS. ADAM CLARKE, PIONEER, SUCCUMBS

One of Earliest Settlers In This County Dies At 73 Years of Age--Funeral Today

Mrs. Clarke, wife of Adam A. Clarke a prominent apiarist of this county, passed away at her farm home in Stanton township of Monday at the advanced age of 73 years and 2 days. Mrs. Clarke was one of the pioneer settlers of this community, and enjoyed the acquaintances of many friends. Cancer of the liver was given as the cause of her death.

Martha Cook was born in Wolverhampton, England on March 5, 1854, and grew to womanhood and received her education in the vicinity of Wolverhampton, in 1882, the year before coming to this country, she was united in marriage to Adam A. Clarke and to this union 10 children were born, six of whom are living, namely: Florence Carley, Mable Simons, Henry, Adam Ross, Charles Herbert, Irene and Edward James, another son who died at the age of 21 years. Three children died in infancy.

The funeral was held this morning at 10 o'clock from St. George's church. Burial was made in the city cemetery.

Mrs. Clarke was a devoted christian, a good home maker, and mother. She had a pleasing disposition and leaves a host of friends who will miss her.

FUNERAL OF MRS. CLARKE

Deceased Was Resident of Plymouth County for Forty-Four Years

The funeral of the late Mrs. Adam A. Clarke, of Stanton township, was held at St. George's Episcopal church, Thursday morning, A. G. Colopy's officiating, and was attended by many old friends and neighbors. The interment was made in the city cemetery.

Mrs. Clarke had been in poor health for some time. Martha Cook was a native of England, where she was born March 5, 1857. She was united in marriage in 1882 with Adam Clarke, and the year after their marriage, they came to America, coming directly to Le Mars. The settled on a farm near O'Leary on their arrival here, where they lived five years. They sold their farm there and bought a farm in Section 6, Stanton township, where they since resided.

Mrs. Clarke was a member of the Episcopal church throughout her life. Her death is mourned by her husband and six children and many other relatives.
